Top Muslim Clerics Inciting Violence on Temple Mount

reprinted from Arutz 7
18 Nisan 5767, April 6, '07

(IsraelNN.com) Two of the top clerical leaders of Muslims in Israel issued a statement Friday calling upon their faithful to prevent supposed attempts by Jews to storm the Al Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount. Sheikhs Raad Salah, head of the Northern Wing of the Islamic Movement, and Muhammad Hussein, the Head Mufti of Jerusalem, called upon the local Arabs to go to the Al Aqsa mosque en masse in order to head off "Jewish terrorist groups" which - they claim - intend to break in to the mosque and carry out religious rituals there.

Salah and Hussein also accuse the Israeli government of "silent acceptance" of the supposed extremist scheme and go so far as to claim that Israeli security forces are undergoing training for capturing the Mount and dividing it between Jews and Muslims.

Such "warnings" regarding imaginary Jewish threats have led to Muslim rioting in the past. Most memorably, the October 2000 riots by Israeli Arabs began after a long period of similar incitement.
