Two policemen and two Muslim worshipers were wounded Sunday in riots on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Approximately 150 Muslim worshipers participated in the disturbance, which began when a group of Jewish visitors was admitted into the compound.
Rioters hurled rocks at the group and at policemen who were escorting them, lightly wounding the two policemen. Police responded with stun grenades, wounding two of the worshipers.
The visitors were escorted away, and the two policemen were treated at the scene. The two wounded worshipers were reportedly evacuated to a hospital in east Jerusalem.
The riots died down, but the Temple Mount was subsequently closed off to Jewish visitors. Prayers at the mosques in the compound continued.
