Pre-Creation: The "Idea" of the Holy Temple

"Seven things were contemplated by the Holy One, blessed be He, before creation: Torah, Repentance, the Garden of Eden and Gehinnom, the Throne of Glory, the Holy Temple and the Messiah's identity." (Pesachim 54:A)

This Talmudic teaching expresses the concept that the notion of the Holy Temple is concealed in the plans for the very foundation of the world, and was a factor in the Divine plan of creation. This statement indicates that G-d's anticipation of its eventual establishment even preceded creation.

By probing the nature of these seven elements, we can come to understand the purpose of creation.
