The Area between the Ulam and the Mizbeach: The Laver

The laver stood between the Ulam and the Mizbeach. Every priest, before beginning his duties, was required to immerse himself in a ritual bath, don the priestly garments, and sanctify his hands and feet from the water of the copper laver. During the era of the Mishkan, the laver had two faucets. During the Second Temple Period, a priest by the name of Ben Katin, donated a laver equipped with twelve faucets so that all the priests performing the Tamid * offering of dawn could sanctify their hands and feet simultaneously.
