The ramp provided ascent to the Mizbeach. All the priests walked up on the right side of the ramp, which was the eastern side. At the top, they circled around the Mizbeach and then descended on the western side. Halfway up the ramp, a pile of salt was placed on its western side. The priests placed the parts of the Tamid * offering near this pile in order to salt them before placing them on the Mizbeach.  The Tables and Small Pillars
