ON THE NEXT-TO-LAST DAY OF 5769, (September 17, 2009), Rabbi Professor Daniel Hershkowitz, the Israeli Government's Minister of Science and Technology, paid a visit to the Temple Institute.
Rabbi Professor Hershkowitz was guided through the Institute's "Treasures of the Holy Temple" exhibition by Rav Yisrael Ariel, the Institute's founder.
After seeing the recreated Temple vessels, Minister Hershkowitz paid a visit to the Temple Institute's Beit haBechira research facility, where he was received by the head of the research department, Rabbi Azarya Ariel.
Later, after ascending the the Temple Institute's rooftop, where he was able to get a close look at the site of the Holy Temple, the Minister met with Mordechai Persoff, director of the Institute's Midrasha youth education branch. After hearing about the Midrasha's efforts towards raising a "Temple conscious" generation, Rabbi Professor Hershkowitz was taken on a close-up tour of the workshop where the Priestly garments are being manufactured.
Here he was able to witness the production of techelet blue, argaman purple, and tola'at sheni crimson dyes, which are used for the making of the unique Priestly belts.
Lastly, the Minister sat and met with the entire Institute staff, led by director Mordechai Prince, where he heard of the Institute's worldwide educational efforts via the internet, by Rabbi Chaim Richman.
The Minister discussed future plans for the Temple Institute, and was presented with Rav Ariel's recently published book on the biblical borders of the land of Israel. Minister Hershkowitz expressed his strong support for the work of the Temple Institute, and his intentions, as Minister of Science and Technology, to help facilitate the Intitute's further research and development of Temple ready vessels. |
