140,000 Muslims attend Ramadan Prayers on Mount

JPost.com Staff, THE JERUSALEM POST
Oct. 25, 2004

Some 140,000 Muslim worshippers attended Ramadan prayers on the Temple Mount Friday afternoon.

The government decided not to place any restrictions on the number of worshippers at the site. Thousands of police officers are securing the area.

Last week, officials debated limiting the number of worshippers to 60,000 fearing that a part of the floor above Solomon's Stables may collapse under the pressure of too many people.

The decision was taken after the Wakf (Muslim Trust) took steps to keep people away from the site.
