Update On MK Feiglin's Temple Mount Banning

The case of the banning of Member of Knesset Moshe Feiglin (Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu) from ascending the Temple Mount in Jerusalem has taken another turn. On Sunday, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein announced that he is requesting that if the police choose to ban an elected official from certain places that they consult with competent bodies in the Knesset so as not to infringe upon a MK's diplomatic immunity.

In a letter to Knesset Speaker MK Yuli Edelstein, Attorney Weinstein wrote, "indeed, as seen in a past Supreme Court ruling, the movement of an MK is an invaluable right in one's line of duty..."

MK Feiglin has been acceding the Temple Mount once a month for about ten years, even before being elected to Knesset this January. However Jerusalem police have determined his visits constitute a security risk. Attorney Weinstein added, "I am confident that we will continue to cooperate in the present context..."
